There’s a 16-year-old junior at Belvidere High School who may be on his way to a career in NASCAR.

Kyle LaPier has set a goal to be involved with motor sports on a professional level. He’s already taken the first few steps.

During the past summer, Kyle won track championships in the Legends division at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, and at the Rockford Speedway. In addition to his double track championships, he also picked up a post-season award. He was the winner of the Rockford Speedway’s “Driver Development Award,” an honor the speedway staff gives to the driver they think is the most likely to make it to NASCAR.

He will begin his 2007 racing season next month in Orlando, Fla., where he will represent Illinois in the Legends Pro Division at Orlando Speedworld in the Winter Nationals.

Kyle plans on competing in more than 80 races during the upcoming 10-month racing season. Some planned stops along the way include Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Kentucky Speedway, Elko Speedway, and then he’ll be back at Rockford and Grundy to defend his titles.

Off the track, LaPier devotes his time to making himself a better driver. He recently completed a book about chassis setup for Bandolero race cars. His success in the Bandolero division reached the national level. The last three years, he finished second, third and fourth in national points.

This is one young man who has his goals set high and seems to possess the tools to help him attain them. Once LaPier makes it to the big time, and you’d like to be among those who can say, “I saw him when he was just getting started,” you’d better make sure you hurry, otherwise it may be too late.

LaPier’s complete 2007 schedule can be seen at www.lapierracing.com.
