17th Annual Good Friday Way of the Cross
The 17th Annual Good Friday Way of the Cross will begin at 9 a.m. on Good Friday, March 29, from the Emmanuel Episcopal Church parking lot, 412 N. Church Street.
The walk will go to places that help heal the citys wounds and/or need support and prayers. Each stop, or station, represents a part of the biblical story of Jesus crucifixion.
The Walk has 28 volunteers from a dozen different religious and social service organizations who will do readings, lead singing, and carry the heavy 10-foot cross through the downtown.
Last year, it took an hour and 15 minutes to walk through the downtown. The cross is carried through the city to remind us to bring our faith to where it is needed, where people are in pain, where there is suffering, said Stanley Campbell, director of Rockford Urban Ministries.
This year, the Way of the Cross participants include members from Sts. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church; Rockford Urban Ministries; Pax Christi; St. Patricks Church; St. James Church; Bread for the World; and Womanspace.
People can contact Stanley Campbell, Rockford Urban Ministries, 964-7111 for further information; or Fr. Tim Piasecki, Sts. Peter and Paul Apostles Church, 962-7171.
