200-year-old tree to be memorialized

The storm of July 5, 2003, took with it a historic community landmark—our 200-year-old oak tree at Sinnissippi Gardens.

In an effort to memorialize the tree and commemorate the storm, Comprehensive Community Solutions, Inc., and its YouthBuild Rockford program, have salvaged wood from the tree and created handcrafted oak paperweights.

The Sinnissippi Oak paperweights are individually crafted and numbered for authenticity. Although limited in number, the paperweights are available for purchase at YouthBuild Rockford, 917 S. Main St., or may be ordered both online and at several local businesses. Visit online at www.youthbuildrockford.org or order your paperweights at one of the following locations: Rockford Public Library, National City Banks, Rockford Park District, Rockford Area Arts Council and Klehm Arboretum. Perfect holiday gift! Orders are being shipped within three days or may be picked up at YouthBuild Rockford.

Proceeds benefit YouthBuild Rockford, a program for area youth in need of vocational skills, education and positive influence in order to function as productive adults.
