2002 Rockford Area Arts Council grant schedule
The Rockford Area Arts Council will offer free grant workshops for individuals, arts organizations and non-profit organizations. These workshops are strongly recommended for first-time applicants. The first workshop was held Tuesday, Sept. 10, and the next will be at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Arts Council office, 713 E. State St., Rockford.
Last year, the Rockford Area Arts Council distributed more than $105,000 in grants to individual artists, arts organizations and other non-profit organizations, and schools within our four-county service area of Boone, DeKalb, Ogle and Winnebago counties. Fundamental to the mission of the Arts Council is its goal to nurture artists and arts organizations; grants are one of several ways to address this goal. Each grant program has a separate review committee, which carefully evaluates each application according to guidelines and criteria. The grant application deadlines for projects taking place in 2003 are the following 2002 dates:
Oct. 16, 2002: Access Grants, for any non-profit organization or individual artist in Boone, DeKalb, Ogle or Winnebago County for outreach projects. Grant maximum is $2,500.
Oct. 16, 2002: Project Grants, for any non-profit organization or individual artist in Boone, DeKalb, Ogle or Winnebago County for an arts project which increases visibility of the arts or offers arts opportunities for youth. Grant maximum is $2,500.
Oct. 23, 2002: Operating Grants, for Rockford area arts organizations with budgets of at least $100,000.
Open Admission: Action Grants, for Rockford area individual artists or arts organizations for new projects. Grant maximum is $350.
Open Admission: Arts in Schools Grants, for artist residencies and field trips; call the Arts Council at (815) 963-6765 for an Arts Resource Book, comprised of the Artists Roster and grant application.
