27th Spring Classic at Rockford on weekend

Steve Carlson will be seeking his 12th NASCAR victory at Rockford Speedway in this weekend’s 27th annual Spring Classic.

Carlson has 62 wins in the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Midwest Series, and its predecessors and is only six wins behind all-time leader Dick Trickle.

Carlson has won the series title nine times, and since 1990 has been no lower than second in the final points.

Practice will be Friday 5-9 p.m. with free fan grandstand. Saturday’s schedule is practice at noon, qualifying at 5 p.m. and racing at 7:07 p.m. with three divisions, including a 57-lap feature for Rockford late models.

The gates will open at 10 a.m. Sunday with the first race at 1:07 p.m. On the card will be the Spring Classic 250-lapper, a 50-lapper for the Yellow Book USA Mid-American Stock Car Series and a 57-lapper for Rockford Grand National cars. Ticket info from (815) 633-1500.
