A free Bagpipes and Bugles concert to raise support for tsunami relief featuring Rockfords award-winning Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps and the City of Rockford Pipe Band is set for Saturday, June 25, at Sam Greeley Field on the Rockford College campus, 5050 E. State St. Gates open at 1:30 p.m. with the concert running 2-3 p.m.
Admission to the concert is free, but free will donations will be accepted with all proceeds going to support the Humanitarian Action Response Team (HART) of Rockford College. HART is planning a relief aid trip in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity to Southeast Asia in December 2005 to participate in ongoing tsunami reconstruction efforts. Rain site for the concert will be the Seaver Gymnasium, also located on the Rockford College campus.
The Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps (www.regiment.org) and the City of Rockford Pipe Band (www.cityofrockfordpipeband.com) are donating their time and talents to support the Rockford College HART relief trip.
The Humanitarian Action Response Team (HART) was formed as a way for Rockford College students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to explore ways to provide a meaningful and sustainable relief effort for the areas stricken by the December 2004 Southeast Asia tsunami.
HART hopes to raise $20,000 through a series of special events and fund-raising opportunities to support the December 2005 trip. Along with monetary donations, HART is also willing to accept donations of airline miles, if possible.
