'space': Group exhibit opens at Kortman Gallery

A group show of artists investigating the notion of space opens Friday, March 18 at Kortman Gallery. This diverse exhibition, titled “space,” is co-curated by Rockford natives Frank Di Giovanni and Susan Smolinski.

The opening reception will feature a special performance by “sound artist extraordinaire” Ropka Popka on the evening of the reception. Popka creates computer-generated sounds rooted in jazz and experimental music.

Invited artists include Sandy Allen, Mark Ignatious Dalpra, Di Giovanni, Shelby Donnelly, Katie Fitzgerald, Emily Gaddis, Brandon Heuser, Niki Kriese, Sandra Olund, Jessica Rossenbaum, Rob Shilov, Stanley Shultz, and Smolinski.

The opening reception for “space” is set for Friday, March 18 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The Kortman Gallery is upstairs at J.R. Kortman Center for Design, 107 N. Main St. More info: 815/968-01213 or visit www.jrkortman.com.
