A sold-out crowd enjoyed all the kicks offered by the cast of 42nd Street Jan. 21 at the Coronado Theatre in downtown Rockford. A true “Lullaby of Broadway,” 42nd Street featured such Broadway standards as “We’re in the Money,” “Shuffle Off to Buffalo,” “Lullaby of Broadway,” “I Only Have Eyes For You” and, of course, the spectacular title number, “42nd Street,” dazzlingly danced down a flight of steps. The original Broadway production of the musical ran for more than eight years, and is one of the 10 longest-running shows in Broadway history. 42nd Street was awarded the 1980 Tony Award for “Best New Musical,” and the 2001 Tony Award for “Best Musical Revival.” The Jan. 21 staging was part of the “Broadway at the Coronado” series.
