Rockford Art Museums 56th Annual Greenwich Village Art Fair opens Saturday, Sept. 18 and Sunday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Riverfront Museum Park. Sponsored by Alpine Bank for an unprecedented 11th year, the two-day juried art fair features more than 100 popular local, regional and national artists. Art lovers may purchase from a wide variety of media including watercolor, oil, acrylic, sculpture, photography, ceramics, glass, wood, fiber and jewelry.
Young visitors accompanied by an adult can explore their artistic talents at Creations By Kids, sponsored by Rockford Register Star, where museum art instructors assist children in a variety of art activities.
A mouth-watering array of food and refreshment options will add to the fun-filled festivities. Visitors may enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, cola or bottled beer at the Young @ Art Village Pub. Gloria Jeans coffee, iced cappucino or wine by the glass will be available at Art Bar wine tent. Snackers will want to savor We-B-Poppin kettle corn or Dippin Dots ice cream. Connoisseurs of fine spirits will relish the POINT, a drink created especially for this years fair at Point Bar, a vodka lounge sponsored by the Kortman Gallery. Vendors from Rockford, Iowa and the Chicagoland area will be on hand to promote their amazing edibles in the Gourmet Food Marketplace, where fairgoers may sample and buy dips, oils, cheeses and wines.
Art buyers and browsers can relax to the entertainment of the Kryptonite Music Club Stage. Slated to perform on Saturday are jam band Electric Dicing, bluegrass performers Cosmic Donkey, acoustic guitarist Ken Curtis, and Harlan Jefferson.
As art enthusiasts arrive on Sunday, made-to-order omelets, bubbly champagne and specialty drinks will be served at Point Bar between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. as The Justin Woodard Ensemble performs a light selection of jazz and blues.
Sundays entertainment on The Kryptonite Music Club Stage begins with the classical rock of Pub Wisdom. Rob Tomaro and Bridges of Soul from Beloit, Wis., will keep the jazz and blues enthusiasts entertained. The celebration concludes with the improv hip-hop group Bizzarro Beat Circus.
Visitors may enter one of four attendance drawings for a unique, one-of-a-kind piece of artwork created especially for the art fair by Rockford artists Jim Julin, Deb Karash, Robert Sunday and Betsy Youngquist.
Admission to the Greenwich Village Art Fair is $4 for the general public and $3 for Rockford Art Museum members. Children 12 and younger are free. Advanced tickets are available at all Alpine Bank locations throughout Rockford for $3.
