9th Annual Jim Gibbons 5K run, 3K walk & Survivors Strut
Its More Than a Race.
The 9th Annual Jim Gibbons Memorial 5K Run, 3K Walk and Survivors Strut to benefit The Leukemia Research Foundation (LRF) of Evanston will take place downtown at a new location where Randolph meets the lake on Thursday evening, June 19, with a live start on ABC7 at 6:25 p.m. Registered by the Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA), the event features a 5K Mens Run and a 5K Womens Run sponsored by Peregrine Financial Group (PFG) of Chicago, and a 3K Walk. Proceeds will support the vital work of LRF in finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, and related blood cancers.
For a second year, the Survivors Strut will honor those who are living with blood related cancers and will again be sponsored by SFOStocks, Futures & Options magazine. Leukemia and lymphoma survivors will lead the 3K Non-Competitive Walk at 6:45 p.m. and strut their stuff!
After the run and walk, participants can mingle with their co-workers, friends and running buddies while enjoying free food provided by AllensThe New American Café, free drinks and live New Orleans rhythm and blues music for all. Q101 and Michelob Ultra are sponsoring the post-race, summer-fun festivities.
The event, co-chaired by Janet Davies and Frank Mathie of ABC7, was created to honor the memory of Jim Gibbons, an investigative reporter at ABC7, who succumbed to leukemia in 1994.
