AirFest celebrates flight

AirFest 2006 set for Sept. 22-24 at Chicago/Rockford International Airport

Rockford AirFest 2006 will take off Sept. 22-24 at Chicago/Rockford International Airport (RFD). The theme for this year’s show is “Celebrating 60 Years of Flight: 1946-2006.”

A highlight of the show will be the famous USAF Thunderbirds, performing Saturday and Sunday.

Other special performers and static displays include: USAF F-117 Night Hawk Stealth Fighter, USAF B-2 Spirit Stealth Fighter, USAF F-15 Eagle Tactical Demo, USAF F-18 Super Hornet Demo, and various War Birds and nearly 60 different acts/static displays as well as more than 100 aircraft.

In addition to military performers, the following civilian acts are scheduled: Aeroshell Aerobatic Team, Blue Angel 7, Dave Dacy and Tony Kazian Wing-Walking Act, Lima Lima Flight Team, Vlado P51 Mustang, Sky Soldiers—A Tribute to Patriots, The Firebirds Delta Flight Demo Team, Speed for Hire Dodge Ram Truck and Jet Outhouse, Joe Dooley Pitts S-2B “The Flying Irishman,” DAC Productions—Fireworks Team, and Rich’s Incredible Pyros.

Gates open at 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 22, and 9 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 23. Show time is 5:30-8:30 p.m., Friday, and 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday (approximate). Souvenir programs are $5. Ticket prices: Friday—$10 adults, $5 kids (kids younger than 5 free—advanced tickets and gate prices same); Saturday and Sunday—$10 adults, $5 kids (kids younger than 5 free—gate price increases to $15 for adults). Advanced ticket sale outlets are at Rockford-area Road Ranger stores and Fifth Third Bank financial centers.
