Aldermen duck war issue
Aldermen duck war issue
By
On Monday evening, Feb. 10, Rockford aldermen decided not to deal with a request for a resolution opposing the plan to attack Iraq. By a vote of 4 to 0, committee members Doug Mark (R-3), Pat Curran (R-2), Victory Bell (D-5) and Dan Conness (D-14) decided to recommend taking no action for the city councils consideration.
The request was submitted several weeks ago by Gaen McClendon of Rockford.
It wound up in the hands of the Planning and Development Committee, chaired by Curran. The committee had a brief meeting before the council session convened.
Before the committee met, Ald. Curran said he did not intend to get involved in the issue because he thinks the council lacks adequate information to decide anything about the war.
EDITORS NOTE: This issue could come up again. If you believe the city leadership ought to join the other 90 cities and one state in this country who oppose the war, contact your alderman and voice your opinion or send a request for a resolution.
