Angela Swan Mistry featured artist at UU Church

Artist’s reception of photographic display set for Suanday, Sept. 19

The Unitarian Universalist Church, 4848 Turner St., Rockford, will feature a photographic display of children by Angela Swan Mistry from Sunday, Sept. 19 through Sunday, Oct. 24. An “Artist’s Reception” (open to the public) will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19 in the church narthex, with light refreshments provided.

Mistry’s photographs have appeared in numerous publications and exhibits. Of her children subjects, she states: “I began to look for the beauty around me, and I found the children on my street. They were willing subjects. The more I shot, the less they posed, the deeper they let me see them. I have not found this accessibility freely given to me by the adults I photograph. The self-consciousness of how they look clouds who they are. So, I continue to explore children as a subject.”
