Anti-war march planned

By Joe Baker, Senior Editor

On Saturday, Oct. 26—the first anniversary of the signing of the USA Patriot Act—anti-war, civil rights, labor, student and other groups, are banding together in a massive international protest against a new war on the people of Iraq.

Mass marches and rallies are planned in Washington, D.C. and San Francisco and in several other countries.

The so-called debate within the political establishment, now coming into public view, provides an opportunity and necessity for all anti-war forces to become a major factor in generating an authentic opposition to U.S. war plans in the Middle East. The Oct. 26 National March in Washington and the joint action in San Francisco will come just a week before the midterm congressional elections.

Organizers of the protest are calling on civilians and military alike to exercise their right to speak out against an illegal war.

Among those endorsing this action are: the National Lawyers Guild, Ramsey Clark, former U.S. attorney general, IFCO/Pastors for Peace, Green Party, United Muslims of America, Vietnam Veterans Against the War, Center for a Livable World, Paramedics for Peace, Citizens For Just Democracy and many others.
