Anybody’s favorite team still in it?

With Chicago teams eliminated from World Series contention, is anyone in the area still rooting for any of the remaining teams?

Now that the Cubs and Yankees have been eliminated from post-season play, I’m assuming most baseball fans in our reading area have lost interest in the playoffs. Am I right or wrong on this one? Is there anyone out there who has an unbridled passion for the Red Sox, Indians, Diamondbacks or Rockies?

If so, I’d like to hear—and possibly even share—your story with our readers. Tell us why you stay up late to watch those games out West, or why you will skip work to watch your team. Are you hosting a World Series party, or maybe even trying to get tickets to one of the series games? I won’t use any last names. So don’t worry, you won’t get in trouble with the boss.

I don’t know any Rockies or Diamondbacks fans. Do we even have any here in Illinois?

I only know two guys from our reading area who are still extremely interested in the Indians/Red Sox series. Local radio personality Ken DeCoster is a huge Red Sox fan. Former television news anchor turned media relations/public relations director at Rock Valley College Mike Robinson is a long-time Cleveland Indians fan. Besides those two, I haven’t come across anyone still talking baseball. Are you?

The World Series begins one week from today. If your favorite team will be playing, congratulations. Don’t forget to drop me a line and tell me all about it at or snail mail me in care of The Rock River Times, 128 N. Church St., Rockford, IL 61101.
