Archaeology professor to speak at RC
Learn about the challenges archaeologists face when fieldwork goes underwater. Professor Robert L. Vann from the University of Maryland will speak on The Sunken Cities of Ancient Lycia, a region located along the coastline in Turkey where the remains of several ancient Greek and Roman cities are partially submerged. The lecture will focus on two sites, Aperlae and Kekova, both cities with abundant standing remains.
Presented by the Classics Department of Rockford College and the Rockford Society of the Archaeological Institute of America, the lecture will be held at 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29 in Severson Auditorium in Scarborough Hall at the college. Refreshments will be served following the lecture, which is open to the public at no charge.
