Art Guild features Stormsdorfer & Bornzin in workshop & program
In some of its most unique programing, the Art Guild of Rockford has scheduled Deborah Stormsdorfer, Rockford, for a colored pencil painting workshop and James K. Bornzin, Rockford, for a program to speak about, demonstrate, and instruct audience participants in the art of Scherenschnitt or scissor cutting. Both will be held at the North Suburban Library, 6340 N. Second St., Loves Park.
Deborah Stormsdorfer will teach a workshop 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 2, in Colored Pencil Painting. Stormsdorfer holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in drawing and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from Northern Illinois University and is an experienced instructor. Her work, flamboyant colored pencil paintings, is included in corporate collections and has won numerous awards as well as having been featured in Whos Who in American Art, The Artists Magazine, The Best of Colored Pencil 2, and Exploring ColoredPencil. She has exhibited nationally in New York City and internationally in Canada, and Greece. This workshop is open to the public with a fee of $20. Inquiries: Sallie Clarke at 815/239-1202.
James K. Bornzins program is at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 5. Bornzin is a watercolorist as well as being skilled in the art of scissor cutting black paper. Having studied with master of the art, German- born Hans Bittner, Bornzin cuts intricate images of birds, flowers, animals such as zebras, faces, ships, and landscape scenes. Each piece takes 15 – 50 hours. Like most artists, he has many of his finer pieces decorating his home, and others have sold for $200 – $500.
This program is free and open to the public. Those who wish to try this art form can bring manicure or sharply pointed scissors; Bornzin will provide the paper. Art Guild of Rockford Program Chair, Sallie Clarke, said, Stormsdorfer and Bornzin are both interesting personalities with vast presentation experience. Art lovers as well as artists will enjoy their presentations.
Throughout the year, the Art Guild of Rockford offers 18 programs, workshops and paint outs, as well as assists with Arts Place, a summer program for Rockford area teens, and sponsors the Rockford Art Fair Sept. 14-15.
