Art Museum features solo exhibition

Off Center: New Work by Sandra Perlow opens at the Rockford Art Museum June 18-Aug. 15.

Sponsored by Joseph Behr and Sons, Off Center: New Work by Sandra Perlow highlights pieces from the Chicago artist’s recent abstract collage series. Her paintings are large-scale expressions of colorful forms and shapes that float loosely within space.

The shapes and forms that occupy much of Perlow’s artwork have a basis in real objects, often suggesting the natural shapes of plants, flowers or cells along with man-made shapes and patterns of tiles, bricks or mosaics. A viewer might be reminded of looking under a microscope and seeing the details of strange but somehow familiar objects in an unseen world.

A free opening reception will be from 7-8:30 p.m., Friday, June 18. The Rockford Art Museum, located in the Riverfront Museum Park at 711 N. Main St., is open Tuesday-Friday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free to Museum members; cost for non-member adults is $3; children and students are free. Info: 968-2787.
