The Rockford Area Arts Council (RAAC) is very fortunate to receive funds from the City of Rockford and the Illinois Arts Council for re-granting purposes. We do fund-raising throughout the year to match the funds from the Illinois Arts Council so we may reach out to the four counties we serve.
The Access Grants are for up to $2,500, and are open to individual artists and area non-profit organizations for projects that increase access to the arts for under-served people in Boone, DeKalb, Ogle and Winnebago counties.
Action Grants go up to $350 for new projects, and are open to individual artists and non-profit organizations in Winnebago County. Community Arts Project Grants fund projects up to $2,500, and are open to individual artists and community organizations for arts projects in the four-county service area.
The grants are to assist artists and non-profit organizations in accomplishing new arts projects. If you or your organization demonstrates a commitment to the arts, please feel free to apply. You may call our office for an application at 963-6765, or stop and pick up literature on whats going on in the arts and in Rockford, and pick up an application.
We are very fortunate to have a volunteer committee that reviews the applications and makes the decisions as to who is funded. They are dedicated to the arts in Rockford and take their position very seriously. Great effort goes into the process to make sure the projects chosen are very diverse and serve a range of constituents.
I would like to invite you to attend one of our Grant Writing Workshops on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 8 a.m., or Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m. at the RAAC, 713 E. State St. This program is how we nurture the development of artists and the arts in our community.
Anne E. OKeefe is executive director of the Rockford Area Arts Council.
