Atwood Center offers knowledge of nature

Rockford Park District’s Atwood Outdoor Education Center provides many opportunities for groups to increase their knowledge and awareness of the natural world, and to build team cohesiveness while enjoying the diverse beauty of Atwood Park’s 334 acres at 2685 New Milford School Rd., Rockford.

The Atwood Lodge is a unique facility that can be rented for weekend retreats in a tranquil, natural setting throughout the year. The lodge is equipped with classroom and meeting space, a full kitchen, dining hall with rustic stone fireplace, and dorm rooms with shower facilities. The lodge can be rented by itself, or scheduled with any of the Atwood Center nature programs.

Atwood Nature Programs are for participants of all ages, and consist of three-hour sessions on field science, geology, outdoor living skills, animal study, and nature and the arts. Programs can be customized to fit group ability levels and objectives; most programs require a minimum of 12 participants.
