Aussie band delivers fresh sound
Australian pop band Fruit kicks off the Sinnissippi Summer Series, sponsored by Charlottes Web for the Performing Arts, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 13. This free performance will be held in the Sinnissippi Park Music Shell, 1401 N. Second St. in Rockford.
Aussie acoustic sensation, Fruit (www.fruit.on.net) is a heart-thumping, hard-hitting, foot-stomping group led by three feisty songwriting women (two wielding acoustic and electric guitars and one commanding an arsenal of horns). Add in a brilliantly tight rhythm section, endless enthusiasm and imaginative musicianship, and you have the 2001 winners of the Best Up & Coming Live Act in Australia.
Touring internationally for the last three years, Fruit has played folk festivals, jazz festivals and world music festivals. After attending their recent sold-out shows at the famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival, one reviewer raved, Fruit spans the register from warm sensuality to soaring, searing passion, quick-fire rap, to a belly-deep bluesy growl… irresistible all-round entertainment (The Scotsman, Edinburgh).
The Charlottes Web Sinnissippi Summer Series is co-sponsored by the Rockford Park District and WNIJ-Radio.
The Sinnissippi Park Music Shell welcomes guests with disabilities. An assistive listening system is available for persons who are hard of hearing. To reserve a personal receiver and headset, or for assistance and information on accessibility, call 987-1600 (voice or TTY); 48-hour notice is required.
