Barbershoppers present 53rd annual show

The Greater Rockford Barbershop Chorus will present their annual show “Moonlight and Roses” at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Midway Theater, 721 E. State St. The Chorus will sing such great old songs as “Moonglow,” “I’m Beginning to See the Light,” “Moonlight and Roses,” “The Nearness of You,” “The Best Things in Life Are Free,” “Moonlight Bay,” “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love” and more in four-part harmony.

The show will be headlined by International Barbershop Quartet Champions “Happiness Emporium” and Sweet Adeline Chorus Champions “Prairie Echoes.” Also featured will be the “Forest City Dixieland Band” as well as quartets from the Rockford Barbershoppers.

Tickets are $13 and are available by phone order to Bob McPhee, 227-5597, or Bill Smith, 965-2683. All seats are reserved. An “Afterglow” party will be held immediately after the show.

The annual show is the Greater Rockford Barbershop Chorus’s main income source, which allows them to serve the community with performances throughout the year. At Christmas time, the Chorus performs at numerous retail locations to raise money for the Salvation Army. The Chorus encourages any man who likes to sing to join them on Monday nights at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3000 Rural St. No experience is necessary.

The Greater Rockford Barbershop Chorus is a long-standing chapter of SPEBSQSA, the Society for the Preservation & Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America.
