LOVES PARKThirsty for some unique summer drinks available in the region? Look no further than the first-ever Best of the Bartenders competition focused on summertime beverages made specifically for the female palate. The event is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Basil Café, 6500 E. Riverside Blvd. Those who attend the event also will help raise money for the AIDS Care Network. The event is free to attend.
Basil Café is hosting the competition, bringing together six bartenders from local establishments to make their best effort at winning the distinguished title of Best of the Bartenders contest for summer drinks.
The six bartenders will come from the following businesses:
Kiki Bs; and
The judges will consist of an all-female media panel. Judges include weekend television anchors Katie Nilsson, WREX-TV; Lauren Cook, WTVO-TV; and Laura Gibbs, WIFR-TV; Jenna West, midday personality on WZOK-FM; Tyler Cox, afternoon personality on 96.7 The Eagle; and Denise Daniels, midday personality for B103-FM. Judges will base their verdict on presentation, taste, aftertaste and name of the drink.
Each of the bartenders is responsible for bringing their own ingredients, glassware and appliances, such as blenders, to the event. The names of the drinks cannot include the establishments title. Following the judges verdict, recipes of these drinks will be available for attendees who can try the drinks firsthand on-site.
Additionally, all tips raised from 5-9 p.m. will go directly to the AIDS Care Network, which provides assistance to those affected by AIDS in our community.
