Basuah taking HIV awareness on the road

As part of the ongoing BASUAH (Brothers and Sisters United Against HIV/AIDS) initiative, the Health Department, through its BASUAH coalition, is sponsoring the wrapping of a RMTD bus with an HIV/AIDS awareness message. The bus wrap was completed April 18 and will appear on the bus from April 18 to June 18. There will also be interior bus signage on several buses.

The BASUAH project is an HIV/AIDS education and testing campaign sponsored by Gov. Rod Blagojevich and the Illinois Department of Public Health to address the alarming trend of HIV infection among the state’s African-American community.

The local BASUAH initiative, which began in August 2006, has been a wonderful collaborative effort with many community organizations and partners. The goal is to increase HIV/AIDS awareness in the community by supporting current HIV/AIDS education and screening programs, in addition to creating innovative outreach programming.
