Rockford Area Arts Council
The 18th Annual ArtScene is Friday, Sept. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 1. There is a great mix of locations transformed into art galleries and galleries that transform into bustling gathering places. JJ Swansons exhibit IMPROV will be in the lobby of New American Theater, for example. Dine at Der Rathskeller surrounded by Eileen Morrisseys work. For those of you who wish to get an early start on the day Saturday, make Carpenters Place your first stop. They will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. As socio-economic factors divide us, art brings us together.
You wont want to miss this collaboration of seasoned artists and new faces, too. There are 35 locations to visit, and artists will be on hand to help you decide which piece to purchase. The energy is tremendous, and you often hear the stories of how the artist became inspired to create the work.
New this year, the Arts Council presents Arts After Hours Friday from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Suggested donations of $10 will be utilized to match grant funding from the Illinois Arts Council so we may continue to regrant funds to local artists and organizations. It will be a great way for artists and friends of the arts to enjoy the live music of Dan Voll and munch on delicious food from downtown restaurants. There will be a cash bar. Enjoy an evening under the stars behind our charming building, Shumway Market. The RAAC wishes to thank the artists and businesses that commit to this event each year. We are fortunate to have sponsorships from Wachovia Securities, Preferred Printing, Brio Catering, Capri Restaurant and Pizza, Kings Table Café and Catering, and River District Catering.
Grab your friends and plot your course, include dinner in your plans, come dance with us Friday! Be seen at ArtScene.
