Belvidere & Boone County Visitor Guide available

BELVIDERE, IL—Hot off the press, and filled with a comprehensive listing of the vast array of things to see and do in Belvidere and throughout Boone County, the new Belvidere & Boone County Visitor Guide is now available. As Illinois’ tourism industry has reached a $23.5 billion level for 2000, counties throughout Illinois are striving to gain a larger portion of the travel expenditures of this fast-growing industry. This marketing tool now enables Boone County to showcase its amenities on a regional, state and national level and compete as a visitor destination. Boone County is part of an eight-county regional tourism marketing and development consortium called Northwest Passage Heritage Corridor, which encompasses the counties of Boone, Carroll, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago.

The bright and colorful 16-page Visitor Guide offers detailed listings on attractions, recreation, lodging and camping facilities, restaurants, antiques and specialty shopping, as well as a calendar of annual events. It is filled with beautiful photographs and a regional map; and offers visitors a comprehensive overview of the Boone County area.

Working with award-winning designer Scott Johnson, principal of the Rockford-based Scott Johnson Design, the brochure was taken from concept and design through production under Johnson’s direction. He also assisted the staff of the Northern Illinois Tourism Development Office (NITDO) with copywriting and photography for the guide.

Funding for the guide was generated in part through a Tourism Marketing Partnership Grant through the Illinois Bureau of Tourism, Department of Commerce & Community Affairs that provided 50 percent of the project costs. Local match money for the project was predominantly raised from numerous contributions from: City of Belvidere, Boone County Health Department, Boone County Historical Preservation Commission, McDonald’s, Home Place Antiques, Schumacher Landscaping/Country Memory Trails, Beaver Creek Pottery, Belvidere Township, Belvidere Park District, Boone County Community Building Complex, First Bank, Poplar Grove Airport/Vintage Wings & Wheels Museum, Belvidere Cemetery Association, Side By Side Cycle, and Boone County Home Community Education Association. Not all of the local match money was raised, so Northern Illinois Tourism Development Office contributed approximately $800 in cash to complete the project, as well as provided numerous hours of in-kind support.

The Belvidere & Boone County Visitor Guide is available for distribution through NITDO/Boone County Visitor Center, 200 S. State St., in downtown Belvidere. To request copies of the Visitor Guide, contact NITDO/Boone County Visitor Center at (815) 547-3740.
