Benefit for Rockford school teacher May 6

Friends and co-workers of longtime Rockford School District teacher Vicky Hennelly will throw a fund-raiser in her honor from 3-7 p.m., Sunday, May 6, at the SM & SF Club, 1000 Sandy Hollow Rd., Rockford. Hennelly is fighting an aggressive battle with Stage 4 lung cancer, which was diagnosed in January.

Hennelly, 49, has taught in the Rockford Public Schools Early Childhood Program for many years.

“She’s an amazing woman,” said fund-raising chairman Ken Johnson. “During her career as an educator, she has touched the lives of countless children and their families to whom she has taught the love of learning and, specifically, the love of reading. I know many families would want to reach out to return a bit of her caring and warmth when Vicky now needs it herself.”

Hennelly lives in Rockford and is the single mother to Jake (SIU graduate), Jenna (Rock Valley student) and Taylor (Guilford High School senior).

The May 6 fund-raiser, titled “Spring Fling Benefit for Vicky,” will include several drawings, a silent auction, entertainment and dinner.

Drawings and the silent auction will include a $500 cash prize, two Bears tickets, a Simmons Queen Mattress, a Rockford Park District Season Golf Pass, a weekend in Door County, two children’s bicycles from Rockford Bicycle Company, plus many other incredible items and gift certificates donated by local merchants such as B. Jones, Crimson Ridge and La Mendola.

Entertainment from 3-7 p.m. will include the Doris LaMarca Trio, Mr. Mustache, Bev Cicolello, The Red Note Quartet (jazz) and lots of children’s games.

Mostaciolli dinner tickets will be available for $10 (adults), $5 (children), and children younger than 5 eat for free.

Donations can be made to: Vicky Hennelly Benefit Fund, Midwest Community Bank/Teller Area, 3963 Perryville Rd., Rockford, Ill., 61114.
