Benefit fund-raiser for Aiden Doner, young cancer victim

A benefit fund-raiser will be held for Aiden Doner, a young cancer victim, from 3 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, Sept. 8, at Moss Hall, Winnebago County Fairgrounds in Pecatonica, Ill.

Aiden is a 7-month-old who is suffering from a rare form of bone cancer known as Rhabdoid Renal Tumor, which has spread to his lungs. To date, Aiden has undergone four surgeries, which included the removal of the tumor and one kidney. Bone marrow harvesting has been completed, and he is undergoing chemotherapy to fight this disease. His chemotherapy treatments followed by bone marrow transplant continues over the next eight months. At this point, he is responding well to treatment, and the family is maintaining a strong faith. Aiden’s parents, Jeremy and Nichole (Johnson) Doner and the extended family are lifetime residents of the Rockford area (Winnebago, Pecatonica, Rockford, Oregon).

While Aiden’s father, Jeremy, continues to work to cover family living expenses, his mother, Nichole, takes Aiden to the Milwaukee Children’s Hospital for the ongoing treatment and tests. The Aiden Doner Benefit has been established to help the family with medical and travel expenses. The $300,000 cap on Aiden’s insurance has already been reached.

Scheduled performers at the benefit include Second Wind, a high-energy country and a little ’50s to ’70s rock ‘n’ roll on stage from 4 to 7 p.m. with The Missing Links, who have shared the stage with musicians such as Three Dog Night, The Four Tops, and Eric Bordon performing from 9 to 11 p.m. C A M Music Entertainment’s Chip Messiner (Q98.5) will emcee the event. A $10 ticket/donation includes a meal along with the music. (Children 12 and younger can attend free of charge.) Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at the German-American Bank and First National Bank & Trust of Winnebago or at the US Bank and German-American Bank of Pecatonica.

The main fund-raising activities for the evening include the silent auction and drawings slated to occur from 3 to 6:30 p.m. and a live auction scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. The main drawing is for a 2007 Yamaha 350CC Grizzly 4 x 4 ATV and a 2007 Yamaha 50CC Vino Classic Scooter, which are supplied by Hammertime. Also, there will be a 50-50 drawing and many, many baskets, gift certificates, art and other merchandise provided by area businesses and friends. Additional activities throughout the evening include kids’ games, bean bag toss and bake sale.
