Benefit June 14 for kidney recipient
In early January, Renae Leonard, 16, of Winnebago was diagnosed with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), a disease of the kidneys. On March 26, Renaes mother Denise donated one of her kidneys to Renae, giving her daughter a second chance at life and ending the three-time-a-week kidney dialysis her daughter had been forced to live with since Jan. 17. Renae will now need anti-rejection medication for the rest of her life.
Friends and family of the Leonards will host a benefit June 14 from 2 to 10 p.m. at the Verdi Club in Rockford to help raise funds for the family and to help alleviate some of the outrageous medical expenses the family has incurred.
The benefit will include several raffles. Donations including food, merchandise, gift certificates and other goods, are being sought. Donations should be designated to Renae Leonard, c/o Shirley Leonard, 14 Clayton Court, Winnebago, IL 61088. Information: 815-335-2036.
Cash donations can be made in care of First National Bank of Winnebago, 500 N. Elida, Winnebago, IL 61088, Account No. 2002771.
