A benefit for 2-year-old Shelby Martin of Rockford, who was born with the rare life-threatening liver disease biliary atresia, will be from 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday, May 29, at the Venetian Club in Rockford.
Shelby is the daughter of Scott and Jennifer Martin of Rockford. Biliary atresia is a rare bile duct disorder that occurs in about one in 15,000 babies. The disease creates inflammation and blockage of the bile duct. A liver transplant is Shelbys only chance of survival. With the help of the Childrens Organ Transplant Association, local volunteers are helping the family raise funds for Shelbys medical expenses.
The May 29 benefit will include dinner from 6 to 8 p.m., catered by Countryside Meats & Deli, and entertainment by RAMI Award winner Men of Our Times from 8:30 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $25 per person for a full buffet meal, one door prize ticket and an evening of entertainment. Tickets are available by calling 624-4313, 963-2778 or 282-1067.
