Brenda Strawbridge, 36, was diagnosed in June 2006 with colon cancer. It has now spread to her liver, lung, breast and brain. Formerly employed at Chrysler in Belvidere, she can no longer drive nor work. She is a single mother with two daughters, ages 16 and 12.
Her friend, Sheila Blackwell, has scheduled a benefit from 1 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, March 24, at Shooters North, inside Forest Hills Lanes, 7742 Forest Hills Rd., Loves Park. Hear live music by The Hitmen and Stone Free.
There is no admission price. Prices are for games, raffles and other activities. Draw your partner for a Dart Tourney (sign up at 1:30 p.m., throw at 2) and a Bags Tourney (sign up at 2:30 p.m., throw at 3). Roller derby skaters, the Rockford Rage, are selling raffle tickets and donating some prizes. Members of the Rage will be present at the benefit.
