Bergner’s helps fight breast cancer

n Area department stores make donations to Lynn Sage Cancer Foundation throughout October

As with any challenge, finding a cure for breast cancer does not have to fall on the shoulders of a select few. Everyone can do his or her part by giving to For Our Daughters, a new outreach spearheaded by the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation.

For the month of October, people wishing to donate to the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation should stop by area Bergner’s department stores at Colonial Village Mall, CherryVale Mall or Machesney Park Mall to pick up a pledge card and make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.

For Our Daughters seeks to recognize the women in everyone’s lives who could be touched by breast cancer. These dedications will be placed on a registry and displayed throughout the month at each Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation event, on the group’s Web site, and all participating Bergner’s and Carson Pirie Scott locations.

“For Our Daughters is about giving from the heart,” said Ellen Soren Beda, chairman of the foundation. “We’re speaking to people about honoring the women we love: our mothers and grandmothers, sisters and daughters, all the women who have affected our lives.”

There will also be a collection of pink- and ribbon-themed items available for sale at all participating Carson’s and Bergner’s locations, including: Godiva chocolates, sequined satin coin purses, long sleeve pink ribbon tees from Jones New York, and velour zip-front jacket and pant separates from Evan-Picone. There is also a Karen Rossi manicure set, a shower radio in vibrant metallic pink, and a Michael Simon beaded cardigan. Profits from the sale of these products will go to the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation.

The Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation was founded in 1985 in the memory of Chicagoan Lynn Sage, who died of breast cancer at the age of 39. To date, the foundation has raised more than $17 million in support of innovative research, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine.

The Lynn Sage Breast Center Program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital is a national model for patient care research and education, providing women and their families with access to the latest advances in the field of breast cancer.
