Dan Puckett and Jonna Kirwan from the Rockford Ski Rack & Patio took the show at the Second Annual Best Cheeseburger in Paradise Cook-off Saturday, Aug. 25.
With the Roasted Away Again Burger, Dan and Jonna pleased the judges taste-buds to capture the burger award, and received the Best of Show award.
Dan Puckett reported it was a lot of fun and their $500 prize would be donated back to Northern Illinois Food Bank to support its mission to feed hungry neighbors. In regard to donating their winnings back to the Northern Illinois Food Bank, Dan said, Thats what its all about!
Doubling its attendance this year, the Best Cheeseburger in Paradise Cook-off was held at Forest Hills Lanes. With sunshine and beautiful summer weather, everyone enjoyed music from Pirates Over 40 and the Caribbean-themed event with cheeseburgers.
Eight teams of cheeseburger grillers competed for the title of Best Cheeseburger in Paradise. Samples of the 2006 Best Cheeseburger in Paradise Winning Burger recipe The Hilbilebergerwere available to taste.
New to the event this year was the Best Margarita in Paradise, sponsored by 1800 Tequila. Six teams were up for this title. The public was able to vote on this contest. DNAs Paradise, by DNA (Diane Govig and April Cash) will reign as the winners for 2007. The panel of celebrity judges found that the Best in Show for the Margarita contest went to Sharks on the Rock, the Northern Illinois Parrot Head Club.
The Second Annual Best Cheeseburger in Paradise Cook-Off, a Caribbean-themed fund-raising event, benefited the Northern Illinois Food Bank and the hungry neighbors it serves.
