Best of Rockford Competition kicks off for 2003

Illinois’ largest music festival is searching for local stars to grace the stages at the annual On the Waterfront (OTW) Festival, presented by Associated Bank. It’s that time of year again to tune up the band and get ready for the annual Best of Rockford Competition. The Best of Rockford Competition is the best opportunity for local musicians to perform at the annual festival, which is attended by approximately 360,000 patrons each year. On the Waterfront brings in a variety of well-known music groups from throughout the world, and is a great opportunity for local artists to share in the spotlight.

All local musicians within a 45-mile radius of Rockford are eligible and encouraged to enter this exciting and challenging competition. Last year, about 100 bands and performers entered the contest, and 29 were named 2002 Best of Rockford winners, five of whom were Platinum winners.

All musicians interested should submit a CD or tape of professional sound quality consisting of three to four songs that best represent the performers’ talents. Several local recording studios are offering discounts for anyone interested in putting their music onto CD for this competition. Performers may contact Barker Recording Studio, Ippolito Recording, Jarico Studios, Inc., Studio B-Digital Recording or Upper Room Recording Studio for discount information.

The performers should also send a bio or media kit, which will be used only for determining Platinum Award winners. CDs, tapes, applications and bios are due to the OTW Corporate Office, 308 W. State, Suite 115, by 5 p.m., Monday, April 28. No late entries will be accepted. Winners will be contacted by letter before June 1.

Judging will be in a blind jury process, and the winners in each category of the competition will be offered the opportunity to perform at the 2003 OTW Festival and will receive $400 in compensation for their performance. Winners will be announced in a press release as well as listed in various festival guides. The judges will also select five Platinum winners who will receive a performance time after 5 p.m. with a $600 compensation for their performance.
