Bilderback credits new tires for seventh win

Ricky Bilderback won his seventh NASCAR Late Model feature of the 2006 season Saturday night, July 22.

The five-time Rockford Speedway track champion, and current season points leader, gave credit for his win to his newly-acquired Goodyear tires. Bilderback said the reason his car was so dominate was due to the new rubber.

He started the 30-lap feature in the sixth position and was able to pass race leader George Bohn on lap 10. Bilderback held his lead for the remainder of the race. Bob Kahler finished ahead of Josh Nelms for second place. Jeremy Miller and Jerry Gille rounded out the top five.

In the Budweiser American Short Tracker division, George Sparkman managed to finish ahead of the rest of the field. Sparkman sustained a fair amount of damage to his No. 5 car during the 25-lap feature. Sparkman, and early race leader Nick Cina Jr., traded paint on lap 18. Cina Jr. surrendered the lead to Sparkman during the exchange. Driving the damaged race car, Sparkman was able to hold on for the remaining laps and take the checkered flag.

Gene Marocco captured his second consecutive feature win in the Coca-Cola Road Runner division. Marocco started the 20-lap feature race in the 12th spot and raced his way to second place 15 laps later. With three laps to go, Marocco challenged race leader John Logan Jr. for the top spot. He was able to out-horsepower him on the final two laps and take his second feature win in a row.

The Classic Modifieds were visiting the track Saturday, and Greg Ihrke won their 20-lap feature.
