Bilderback cruises to fourth straight victory

Ricky Bilderback continues to dominate the Late Model division at Rockford Speedway. He won his fourth consecutive feature race Saturday night, June 3.

Bilderback is the current points leader in the division, and is attempting to win his sixth consecutive season title.

During qualifying, Bilderback proved to have the fastest car. After the inversion, he would end up starting the feature in the eighth spot. Chad Misslich started on the pole, and held the lead for the first 15 laps. On lap 16, Misslich’s engine broke a valve and prematurely ended his attempt at his first feature win in the Late Model division.

Jerry Gille took over the lead at that point. He was able to stay out front for the next four laps. On lap 20, Bilderback cut down on the inside of Gille and passed him to take over the top spot. With clean racetrack in front of him, Bilderback stretched his lead to four car lengths by the time the checkered flag flew.

Gille finished second, Jon Reynolds Jr. edged out Bob Kahler for third. Josh Nelms finished in the fifth spot.

Fred Nason won the 25-lap feature in the Grand National division. Gilbert Brewer led the first 24 laps of the contest. Nason’s patience paid off when he was able to make a pass immediately prior to the white flag lap. Brewer finished second. Dennis Bassler came home third. Division points leader Brock Behnke finished in the fourth spot, and Chad Leahy took fifth.

Dan Carlson won his third Road Runner feature of the 2006 season. After starting 10th, Carlson caught race leader Josh Lundy with six laps to go. Carlson held off second-place finisher Ricky Weimerskirk for the victory. Lundy would end up in the third spot. Pat Smith and Steve Talley rounded out the top five.

In the visiting Super Cup divisions, Mackenzie Piller celebrated her 12th birthday with a feature win in the kids division. Gary Whitson won the 30-lap adult feature.

This Saturday night, June 10, marks the return of the world-famous trailer race. Fans can enter the speedway gates beginning at 5 p.m. and the first race is at 7:07 p.m. Advance tickets may be purchased by calling the box office at 633-1500.
