BJSO announces auditions

Beloit—Robert Tomaro, music director and conductor of the Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra (BJSO), has announced auditions for various positions in the orchestra. The BJSO is inviting all talented musicians to audition for a possible position within the symphony. BJSO auditions will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 31, and Wednesday, Sept. 1, from 4-6 p.m., in Eaton Chapel, on the Beloit College campus. There will be auditions for section violin and bass, bassoon and percussion. Those wishing to audition should prepare two selections. One should be a lyrical offering and the other must show technical mastery of the instrument.

BJSO is beginning its 51st season. Classical concerts begin on Oct. 9 and 10 and will continue in November, March and April. Pops concerts are performed in December and February. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings, with dress rehearsals on the Friday prior to performances.

The 2004-2005 season will include works by Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Mozart, Dvorak, Berlioz, Strauss, Schumann and Orff. Soloists during the season will include pianist Ian Nie, cellist Parry Karp, and Bill Barnewitz, principal french horn of the Milwaukee Symphony. The season’s theme is “Classical Romance.”
