Crispus Attucks (1723-1770) was the first person shot and killed at the Boston Massacre on March 5, 1770. Attucks, a seaman, had been dining at a restaurant when he heard a little boy crying. The boy had been hit in the head by a British soldier. Attucks and others began fighting the British soldiers. Suddenly, someone yelled “Fire!” and Attucks was shot and killed, sparking the start of the Revolutionary War.
