Blazing Paddles Youth Canoe Camp July 24-28

There are 90 miles of river in Winnebago County, and middle school students will have the chance to explore some of these waterways by canoe at Severson Dells Nature Center’s Blazing Paddles Canoe Camp.

The Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, July 24-28. Boys and girls entering the 6th through 8th grades are eligible for the camp. Cost is $150 for “Friends of Severson Dells Members” and $165 for non-members. Canoes and equipment will be provided.

Canoe campers will learn canoe safety and paddling techniques from American Canoe Association certified guides. They’ll also learn about voyageurs and early canoe history, birds, mussels and much more as they float the Rock, Pecatonica, Kishwaukee and Sugar rivers as well as Pierce Lake.

To qualify, campers should be able to swim a minimum of 50 yards and be able to tread water for two minutes.
