Boat, fishing show this weekend

The 33rd annual Rockford Boat, Vacation and Fishing Show will be Friday through Sunday at the MetroCentre, 300 Elm St.

Hours will be 4-9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults with discount coupons available at and area marine dealers; children 12-under are free.

New boats, motors and trailers will be exhibited. Also, travel resorts and vacation information will be available from exhibitors. Other features include Tackle Row, the Hawg Trough 5,500-gallon and 45-foot-long mobile aquarium, minnow races, Mr. Steve for the kids and Great Cats of the World from the Bridgeport (Texas) Nature Center, including white Bengal tigers.

A number of Rockford-area fishing clubs will have booths in the show, and Bassmasters CastingKids contests will be held all three days for boys and girls, accompanied by a parent or guardian, ages 7-10 and 11-14. There is no entry fee, and the event provides all rods and reels. Signup applications will be available at the show.

Fishing clinics also will be a big part of the show. The headliner will be Spence Petros. Other clinic presenters include Mick Thill, Jim Crowley, Marty Papke, Jay Angel, Duane Landmeier, Lee Haasch, Greg Stockey, Bill Fricke and Kevin Dells.
