Boone County Health Department partners with Crusader Clinic

The Boone County Health Department (BCHD) and Crusader Clinic have announced a new joint venture that will extend primary health care to the medically underserved in the Boone County area. Beginning Feb. 3, 2003, Therese Lucietto, M.D., a bilingual Crusader Clinic Family Practice physician, will see patients at the Boone County Health Department, 1204 Logan Ave., Belvidere. Dr. Lucietto is certified by the American Board of Family Practice.

The Crusader Clinic at the Boone County Health Department will be open Mondays, 8:30-11:30 a.m., 12:30-4:30 p.m. and on Fridays, 8:30-11:30 a.m. An affordable sliding fee scale is available to clients based on annual income and family size. In addition, discount prescription pricing and medication assistance programs are available to clinic patients. Medicaid, Medicare, private pay and insurance are accepted.

Julia Norem, RN, MS, director of Nursing Services, BCHD, said; “The need for primary care services for the uninsured and under-insured in this community is significant. Now this population can enjoy the same preventative and acute care health care services that insured people enjoy.”

A recent survey of BCHD clients demonstrates a need for this service. Of those surveyed, 41 percent report having no health insurance coverage. Of those with insurance, 25 percent report having insurance for their children only. In addition, nearly 20 percent of clients report having difficulty finding a primary care provider for their child, even though they have public aid coverage. Nearly three-fourths of respondents (72 percent) stated that they would utilize the services of a physician at the health department if that were available to them.

“Crusader Clinic has a stellar history of providing quality health care services to the neediest members of the community,” Norem said. We are very appreciative of their willingness to assist us in Boone County, and we look forward to working together.”
