Renowned garden designer, nursery owner and lecturer Craig Bergmann will be the featured speaker at this years Botanica 2005 luncheon to be held on Wednesday, April 6 at Giovannis Restaurant. Botanica 2005 is a fund-raising event for Klehm Arboretum and Botanic Garden. This years event will feature Bergmanns luncheon presentation on Designing for Success in the Midwest, a bonus gardening seminar also presented by Craig on Ornamenting The Garden, a delicious spring lunch prepared by Giovannis, a silent auction and a raffle. Botanica 2005 is the kickoff event to the 2005 gardening season.
Craig Bergmann is the proprietor of Craig Bergmanns Country Garden, a perennial nursery and European-style retail garden center in Winthrop Harbor, Ill. It is considered to be one of the Midwests most beautiful nurseries and a must-see destination. Bergmanns award-winning work has been featured in books, magazines and on television. Craig is also the editor of the book Midwestern Landscaping, a comprehensive and practical guide for gardening in our region. This book will be available for sale at the Botanica Luncheon.
The luncheon activities begin at 10:30 a.m. with the silent auction and raffle. The gourmet lunch prepared by the chefs at Giovannis will be served at noon and Bergmann will begin his presentation around 12:45 p.m. During his presentation, Craig will share how he transforms various garden designs, inspired by faraway places, into successful landscapes for the Midwest. For an extra fee, guests may also attend the bonus seminar offered by Bergmann on Ornamenting the Garden.
This seminar, beginning at 9:30 a.m., is sponsored by Rock Valley Womens Health Center, and highlights the art of placement for objects in the garden. An exclusive Meet and Greet with Bergmann is also an option for avid gardeners wishing to become Platinum Sponsors for the day. Platinum sponsors will be able to chat privately with Bergmann while having his book personally signed.
Reservations for Botanica 2005 are being taken through April 1. Cost for the luncheon and presentation, which starts at 10:30 a.m., is $38 per person. Luncheon, presentation and the bonus seminar, which starts at 9:30 a.m., costs $45 per person and Platinum Planter Sponsorship with the Meet and Greet at 10:30 a.m. is $100 per person. Corporate and/or Friends Of tables are available for $360 for a table of eight. Copies of Bergmanns book may be purchased at the event for $35 each.
