A Chocolate Garden is the inspiration for this years annual celebration of spring luncheon! Gardeners and chocolate lovers will be delighted with the special chocolate garden décor, a very special chocolate-infused menu, chocolate garden centerpieces and a silent auction and garden boutique filled with items for the gardener and chocolate fanatic alike. This years Botanica Luncheon is presented by AMCORE Bank and will feature Trudi Temple, founder of Market Day, the original fund-raising corporation that provides a minimum of 10 percent of all sales to participating schools, churches and non-profit organizations since 1975 it has raised more than $330 million for education. Trudi is an accomplished gardener who transformed an ordinary 1-acre yard into a show garden that attracts thousands of visitors each year from out of state and beyond to study and enjoy her work of art. Trudis fearless determination and tireless ingenuity will be apparent as she shares some of her gardening secrets (Trudi pits), wisdom and life in Germany during World War II in her inspirational presentation. She is also the author of Trudis Garden, a feast for the eyes filled with exquisite flower portraits and garden vignettes sidled by memoirs, recipes and much more.
Botanica attendees will thoroughly enjoy the morning bonus seminar sponsored by Rock Valley Womens Health Center and presented by Deb Crockett, Agroecology Educator at CSA Learning Center at Angelic Organics. Just in time for planning your garden, Deb will discuss Organic Vegetable Gardening and the health and environmental reasons for growing food without chemicals. Shell cover the basics of garden ecology, soil care, intercropping and pest control as well as exchange ideas and resources for reducing the use of chemicals in the home garden. The CSA Learning Center helps urban and rural people build food systems and offers opportunities to grow healthy food for a better quality of life, connect with farmers and the land, as well as learn agricultural and leadership skills.
