Bridge gets city approval

On Feb. 26, the Rockford City Council approved the proposal to replace the deteriorating Spring Creek Bridge over Spring Creek Road, east of Alpine Road.

The project is estimated to cost $450,000. The Illinois Department of Transportation agreed to supply $360,000, and the city will provide $90,000.

The city will solicit bids in mid-April. Shortly afterward, the project will begin.

“The exisiting bridge and box culvert are in poor condition and need to be replaced,” said Larry Laursen, project manager and senior civil engineer for the city. “As far as I know, it’s never been replaced. It’s been widened, when Spring Creek was widened. We expected it was going to have some work done on it over the last few years.”
