University of Illinois head men’s basketball coach Bruce Weber will continue to pace the hardwoods at Assembly Hall.

The University’s board of trustees extended Weber’s current contract through the 2011-12 season.

Weber has compiled an 89-16 record in his three seasons at Illinois. His team advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament last season, after finishing as runner-up to North Carolina in the national championship game in 2004-05.

Weber’s total salary package will be worth $1 million per year. His base salary is $200,000 per season. That will be combined with his radio, television and other promotional appearances package valued at $600,000. The remaining $200,000 will be put into a deferred compensation account. He would be able to collect that money, provided he stays at Illinois, at the end of the 2011-12 season.

Weber’s previous coaching experience includes 18 seasons as an assistant to Gene Keady at Purdue University and five years as the head coach at Southern Illinois University. In his five seasons at SIU, Weber’s record was 103-54. His combined record as a head coach in the NCAA is 192-70.
