Jane, Rockford’s Celebrity Dinosaur, will be front and center at her summertime celebration when the Burpee Museum hosts its annual fund-raiser Friday, July 28. The Burpee’s entertaining and unique Rockford celebration, which is rapidly becoming one of the season’s best shindigs, starts at 7 p.m. and lasts until midnight.

Susan Leahy and Rita Pirrello-Epperson, co-chairmen of this fund-raiser, have been working feverishly with a cast of more than 40 steering committee members since last September to ensure its success. Many invested their talents and a tremendous amount of time, especially Carol Moll (Sponsor Chair), Sherry Harlan and Penny McGrail (silent auction co-chairmen), Deb Orput and Libby Clark (decorations co-chairmen) Cain & Co staff (program book ads.)

Partying with Jane, Burpee’s celebrated dinosaur, the past three years has become a signature event on Rockford’s summer social calendar. Hundreds of guests dancing under the stars and dining on gourmet specialties adds up to a great time for all.

More than 500 distinguished guests will savor exquisite gourmet specialties in buffet settings prepared by the finest chefs from some of the Rock River Valley’s top restaurants and caterers, including: Kuma’s Asian Bistro, Deli Italia, Angelo’s @ Brynwood, Habanearo’s Mexican Grill, A Movable Feast, River District Catering, Brio, Cliffbreakers, Culvers, Toni’s of Winnebago, Table 13, Basil Café, Daily Grind, Thai Cuisine and Papa Murphy’s.

After feasting on a variety of delectable gourmet delights, guests will put on their dancing shoes and fox trot and shimmy all night to one of Chicago’s most diverse and sought-after bands, the Pete Fleming Orchestra—featuring an extensive play list that covers everything from Sinatra to Glen Miller to Motown—including the great dance hits of the ‘70s and ‘80s, classic rock, as well as the best of current favorites. “You’ll never want to leave the dance floor,” says co-chairman, Rita Pirrello-Epperson.

A silent auction features an array of exquisite unusual items, including: three sets of four Premium CUB tickets, season pass to all five Rockford public golf courses, open cock-pit plane trips, PGA Championship tickets and beauty packages, children’s books and much more.

NEW this year is a live auction featuring a custom-designed ladies pendant of fossilized ammonite set in gold enhanced with diamonds exclusively designed by Clodius & Co. Jewelers for the Puttin’ on The Rex party.

A massive tent will house the festivities and accommodate the growing number of guests who will attend. Reservations are available at $75 each. Raffle tickets are available for a $5,000 cash prize at $10 each, five for $40 or 12 for $100. Attire is summer casual.

Jane’s Puttin’ on the Rex party is sponsored in part by: WorkPlace Staffing, AMCORE Financial, Inc., Swedish American Medical Foundation, Hamilton Sundstrand and US Bank, among many others. All proceeds from Jane’s party will benefit the Museum’s educational programs so the “Story of Jane” can be shared with everyone.
