SPRINGFIELDState Senators Brad Burzynski (R-Clare) and Dave Syverson (R-Rockford) are encouraging local seniors to attend their senior health fair Tuesday, July 24 from 9-11 a.m. at Ken-Rock Community Center, 3218 11th St., Rockford.
There is no charge for admission to the health fair, and the lawmakers said complimentary refreshments and various free health screenings will be available.
This is a perfect opportunity for area seniors to speak with health care professionals and access information on the many state programs that are available to them, but which they might not be aware of, said Burzynski.
Qualified personnel will be on hand to answer questions and provide free blood pressure, vision and blood sugar screenings. Participants are encouraged to fast for two hours prior to the blood sugar screening.
Hearing and pulse oxymetry tests will also be administered, and seniors who attend are invited to sign up for a free amplified telephone or receive a free chair massage from Med-Plus Neck and Back Pain Center. Syverson is also encouraging attendees to search the Cash Dash computer for any unclaimed assets that might be in their name.
People occasionally forget about their small savings or checking accounts, valuables left in a lock box, uncashed payroll checksthings of that nature, explained Syverson. If the owner cant be found, the assets are then turned in to the state Treasurers Office. We are trying to reunite residents with their unclaimed assets, which in some cases can amount to substantial amounts of money.
Participants expected to attend the fair include the Social Security Department, Blue Cross-Blue Shield, the Northwest Illinois Area Agency on Aging, R.A.M.P., the Arthritis Foundation, the American Cancer Society, Rock Valley College Center for Learning in Retirement, the Rockford Park District, Comfort Keepers, Citizens Utility Board, offices of the Illinois State Treasurer, Illinois Attorney General, Illinois Secretary of State, Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs and Illinois Department of Insurance. Also present, the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, the Hearing Aid Company of Rockford, Lifescape Community Services, the Center for Sight and Hearing, Crusaders Clinic and the Visiting Nurses Association.
