Bus trip to Ravinia’s Gala Opera Fantastique


The Rockford Chapter of the Lyric Opera of Chicago is scheduling a bus to take interested opera lovers to the popular opera Gala at Ravinia in Highland Park, Ill., on Saturday, July 12.

Bobby McFerrin, Kathleen Battle, Denyce Graves, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Children’s Choir perform. The program includes the Overture to Le Nozze di Figaro, Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor, selections from Carmen and Samson et Dalila, and a world premiere—Train Commission.

The bus will leave from the parking lot of The Bagel Place on Morsay Drive in Rockford (south of Alpine Road) at 2:15 p.m., arriving in time to hear the pre-gala Steans Institute concert if desired.

Pavilion reserved seating for the 7 p.m. performance and the bus transportation are included in the $65 price. The price does not include eating options. There are several restaurants for all price ranges at Ravinia, or bring your own picnic with you to enjoy on the lovely grounds there.
