Byron Civic Theatre announces audition date

Byron Civic Theatre will be holding auditions for the second show of the 2002-2003 season, Christmas Kaleidoscope II. More than 80 of the area’s most talented entertainers will be combining their efforts in a repeat of last year’s smash BCT hit, Christmas Kaleidoscope. This music and comedy variety show combines Rock, Broadway, Gospel, Country and lots of laughs. Christmas Kaleidoscope offers an unparalleled celebration of America’s most- loved holiday in a heartwarming, funny, and dazzling family show. It combines the traditional music of the season with Yuletide comedy for an evening of holiday entertainment.

This show is performed with a cast of singers, dancers, musicians and comedians. In addition, the Kaleidoscope Chorale will perform holiday music.

Auditions will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2002 at Sunderman Theatre, located just inside Byron High School at 696 Colfax St. in Byron. Roles are available for children, teens and adults. Children and teens will audition at 6 p.m. Adults will audition at 7 p.m.

The following roles will be cast:

12-15 children for a medley of songs. Rehearsals for the children will be early in the evening at separate times from the rest of the cast. They will need to be at all rehearsals during tech week.

8-10 teens for a feature number including song and dance. Rehearsal for the teens will

be at separate times from the rest of the cast. They will need to bc at all rehearsals during tech week. Pianist doing a featured number in each act.

10 dancers, 5 male and 5 female. Dancers will be used in several dance numbers throughout the show.

10-14 singers who will be used throughout the show for the featured numbers.

2 comedians, one male and one female.

One Master of Ceremonies.

Children and teens should come with a prepared Christmas song and sheet music for the accompanist to play. The song should be only one verse and chorus or just the chorus. Keep it short. Adults interested in singing should prepare a short Christmas song and bring the music for the accompanist. If you are interested in singing a specific song, sing that one for auditions.

Adults or teens interested in dancing should come dressed in comfortable clothes, prepared to learn a dance and work with the choreographer.

Adults interested in any of the specialty acts (comedian, pianist, Master of Ceremonies, etc.) should prepare a short audition piece.

The musicians are also part of the cast. They perform on stage and at times, become a part of the show down front. All musicians should be able to play from written music and improvise to some extent. Musicians should be comfortable with all musical styles. Musicians are Keyboard 1, Keyboard 2, Lead Guitar, Rhythm Guitars Bass Guitar, Bass Fiddle, Percussion, Fiddle 1, Fiddle 2, Trumpet, Trombone, and Saxophone.
