Camp Fire USA offers Youth Bereavement Camp
Camp Fire USA North Central Illinois Council is again sponsoring its Treasure of Life Camp at Stronghold near Oregon, Ill., on July 6-11. This is a Bereavement Camp for children ages 8-14 who have lost someone close to them through death. It is a time when children can share their grief with peers and trained counselors. Also, children learn it is all right to have fun and to continue with normal activities.
The camp is built around a regular camping experience, with the exception of Grief Therapy classes each day. Activities include supervised canoeing, swimming, arts, crafts, hiking, sports, a challenge course, and games. During the week, the children live in the Castle, which is the focal point of the Stronghold Camp and Conference Center.
Strongholds cost for each camper is $249 for the week. In addition, there are underwriting expenses for the Camp Fire Council which makes the overall cost about $300 per camper. Many families cannot afford to pay the full cost, so donations are used to help these children have a week at camp. Any individual, service club, organization or church may sponsor a child for the Treasure of Life Camp. Camp Fire USA North Central Illinois Council is a not-for-profit organization, and all donations are tax deductible. Please make your check payable to: Treasure of Life Camp and mail to Camp Fire Council at 100 W. Lafayette St., Ottawa, IL 61350.
Registrations are being accepted now and are limited to the first 30 people. For an application or more information, please call the Camp Fire Office at (815) 434-4409.
